Ever since we started the policy of monthly seminars, it has been an enlightening experience for all of us.
One Saturday afternoon, each month, we do not spend our time watching a movie, drinking beer, or shopping. We sit down together and get introduced to everything new that is happening around us.
The presentations are for approx 10 minutes each. Although it might not be sufficient to make you an expert, but it is sufficient to open your eyes and make you search further.
This month we talked about things like using Linux as our day to day Operating System, writing secure PHP codes, creating table-less design using CSS, using frameworks like blueprint to achive it, about LINQ in dot net, about globalization and its effect on us and finally about why we should all have a hobby.
From the list of topics you can see that scope of our knowledge enhancement.
The best thing that I am observing about these presentations is that the person who benefits most from these presentations is the person who is giving it. His learning is much more than the learning of the person listening to him.
So, if your group, your team etc does not have events like these, it is high time you develop a knowledge sharing culture. Everybody benefits from it.
Here are the presentations that were given this month
1. Div v/s tables
2. How to write secure code in PHP
3. Introduction to Blue Print CSS
4. Introduction to LINQ in Dot Net
5. Introduction to Magento
6. Why You Must Have A Hobby
7. Globalization
8. Layout Design
9. Linux V/s Windows
Hi Folks,
We at Kalptaru Infotech Ltd are not always juggling deadlines with bug fixes. Sometimes we unwind and have fun too.
As a policy, we have a party every first Saturday of the month.
This weekend, we went to the discotheque of Hotel Lords Inn. It is actually a very hopeless place in itself and the DJ is just another guy playing some music, but with friends around, this party was fun.
Here are some photos of this party.

He he he… that is me there (In black shirt and without the beard
with Vaibhav, Ravindra, Pankaj Dangi and other members of my team

Our fingers dance of the keyboard, and our feet on the dance floor.
Ok, I know it is lame but I just had to say this ;)

Vaibhav and Naveen sharing a private joke

Now the clients can see that we actually pull our hairs solving their bugs.

More action on the dance floor

Bottom line, all of us had a great time this weekend.
Now, we are looking forward to the third Saturday, when we have a Seminar in our company again.
Once again, all the teams will introduce us to something new hapenning in the IT world.
See you again on my next post…
Take care,
Gunjan

Hi Folks,
We are evolving at Kalptaru Infotech Ltd.
Things are changing very fast all around us, and we are keeping pace with this change.
One of the biggest problem that you face when you have a large team, where everybody is working on something very exciting, is that as a team, all of us have a lot of experience and knowledge, but each member of the team is good only in a few things.
Sharing information and skills across all the members of a team is a big challenge.
To take care of this situation, we at Kalptaru, have a monthly seminar.
Each team has to give a presentation on any topic of their choice
The benefits we found were
- People were getting to know each other better
- Learning became fun because everybody got a head start due to these presentations
- It did wonders with the presentation and communication skills of the team members
- And yes, all of us got one more excuse to get free snacks from the company
We are sharing the slides used for presentation and hope you find something useful there.
You can read all these slides online or download them on your PC.
Presentation #1: Introduction to Linux and Web Development.
Presentation #2: Introduction to Silver Light
Presentation #3: Administrative behavior
Presentation #4: FLEX
Presentation #5: Overview of Subversion System for version management
Presentation #6: Working with Joomla
Presentation #7: Working with PHPBB
Hope you find it useful.
There will be more next month.
